Cooking For 2 Tuesday: Marinated Chicken & Songs to Listen to On Repeat
This is one of our favorite meals. It is a pretty standard recipe that most people probably know/love/use. It is chicken breasts marinated in sprite/7up/store brand lemon lime soda. I think the first time I made it I googled "sprite chicken" and found a recipe that went something like this: marinate chicken overnight in :
1 can of sprite, 1/3 c. olive oil, 1/3 c. soy sauce, & 1 tsp garlic powder.
Well, the first time we made it, it was good, but a little too salty for us (we are sugar lovers up in this house). So I swapped out the soy sauce for teriyaki sauce and it was much better, but then we noticed the longer we let it marinade (ideal time is 3 days) the sweeter and more flavored the chicken is. So it's a pretty basic recipe, but with our own twists.
I marinated the chicken a few days prior and then talked Lee into heading out to the grill, steaming the broccoli, & boiling and mashing the potatoes. What a champ! We also had some left over home made rolls because even though I was lazy on this particular night, it doesn't mean I didn't channel Martha on Saturday.
Lastly (as promised) without further ado, songs that I just want to listen to over and over lately. Click to listen to it. PS You are welcome for not making you listen to them by posting a playlist.
Fun. We Are Young
Christina Perri A Thousand Years
LMFAO I'm Sexy & I Know It
What songs are you listening to on repeat?

the master
On Saturday, Lee Middle Name Last Name graduated with his Master's Degree. I am so stupidly proud of him that I am going to christen him with a new nickname. It is currently a tie between 'master' and 'the master'; leaning more toward 'the master.' To the master's embarrassment I have informed him that I will be calling him this name in public to enjoy the reactions of bystanders. Not to be confused with any reference to slavery which was sad.
(although some people think marriage is the last legal form of slavery
bringing me to the interesting topic of how awesome it will be when I refer to
the master by his new name at places like the grocery store).
Also not to be confused with any mockery of the hard work he has done.
Just the pure enjoyment I had when reading on the graduation program that the master's name was listed under "Master of Science and Counseling."

do whatever it takes to get the moustaches

My birthday is on Friday, but we decided to celebrate on Monday. All I told Lee was that I wanted to go on a date. He drove me to Provo in search of a restaurant called, "Tango House." When we got to the address the place no longer existed. Nice. So we drove to Cafe Rio to discover our wallets no longer existed {actually we left them at home}. So we drove home, got our money and went back to Rio. Awesome so far right?
No really, it was awesome.
Pork Salad for me.
Pork burrito for Lee.
Micheal Jackson on the speakers.
More car time
Lots of Kesha on the radio
Then: Nickel Arcades. ---- Guys, I haven't been there since I was 12.
Surprising? Yes.
Disappointing? No.

y to the blog
Illustration of this point: The other day I say to the husband, "You know how you said you would take Biff on a walk with me? Well, you don't have to go. I'll go by myself because I want to live life and you want to live couch."
First of all, how rude is that, "you want to live couch." Second of all, what does that even mean? Last, and most important (to the point I am trying to make here)is... Since when is taking a dog for a walk living life?
So point made. I really am boring and don't really, "live life."
But, back to the side story (if you were wondering)Lee did walk the Biff with me; he just wanted to watch some clip coming up on ESPN about Jimmer Frasomething and I did not; hence my bratitude.
What was I talking about? Right, I have no life. Which brings up the question of why I am starting a blog. Good question right?
So why am I starting a blog? First here are all of the reasons I have never had a blog before:
1. I once had a class where I was required to write in a blog every week about school and it was part of my grade and it kinda made me hate it.
2. I am boring or if you must argue with that I will say too busy for fun/excitement.
3. Now, don't be offended here world of bloggers, but I have kind of felt that having a blog is sort of pretentious. Sort of like saying, "Hey! I am awesome! Read my thoughts! Look at my photos! Who isn't interested in me?"
That seems like some pretty good reasons for not blogging. So now I'll explain what has caused my change of heart.
1. The first time I wanted to blog was after watching this: Let's bet honest, who didn't want to blog after watching this? Or cook up a storm (a french storm) in the kitchen for that matter.
2. Having a blog could force me to actually TRY to be more interesting and exciting.
3. Reading other friends blogs makes me want to blog just to be able to have a list of awesome blogs on the side of mine for easier perusing of blogs.
4. This goofy article someone posted on facebook written by a self proclaimed feminist/atheist who can't stop reading blogs of mormon housewives. You can read it here.
5. And that article led me to an awesome blog that I have been reading like a book (literally read it for hours on end) That is her below; to read it click on her face.
So there it is. The scoop on y to the blog.
