Mushy Gooey Smooches

In honor of February the 14th and forced pressure for romance across the land to all, attached and unattached, I present {for your viewing pleasure} the greatest couples that never really existed...

Pam Beesly & Jim Halpert

Ross & Rachel

Harry & Sally

Johnny & Baby

Elizabeth & Mr. Darcy

Jack & Rose

I could go on forever, but it would just get more embarrassing as I go.
I would have to include Bella & Edward eventually,
despite my distaste for Robert Pattinson
and we just don't want to go there.

So only one more...

things I just don't "get"

There are some things in this life that I just don't get. I'm not saying I hate it (or you, if you fall in any of these categories), I'm just saying I don't get it.

1. Zumba

People go nuts over zumba, but for me it's just awkward. It's not even the sexy Latin moves that make me feel awkward. It's the fact that most people look really stupid doing it, but the main thing is how awkward it is when the (often Caucasian) instructors yell out things like, "aye yigh yigh," and expect you to shout it back. It just isn't for me. I love me some yoga, running, regular dancing and I often force myself to weight lift, but zumba isn't my cup of tea.

2. TMI on facebook...

All I can say is about this is why?

3. Negative attitudes.

My ideas about this can be quoted from the ever popular Bobby McFerrin song (Don't Worry, be Happy) "In every life we have some trouble. When you worry you make it double."

4. What's the dealio with the fact that whenever people are at Walmart (or in their cars) some people just lose their humanity?

What I mean is this; when in these two particular domains people begin to only care about themselves and if anyone gets in their way they will run you over without even an apology.

5. Watching sports on TV.

I am actually a huge advocate of playing sports. I love to be active and I think it is really important for kids to participate in team sports from a young age. There are some great lessons you can learn about life and about yourself through sports, but I just don't get watching them on TV. After a while it's kind of all the same and you don't know anyone on the team, so what is the point? If I've seen 30 football or basketball games it feels like I've seen them all.

diet dr pepper: a eulogy

eu·lo·gy[yoo-luh-jee]

–noun, plural -gies.
1. a speech or writing in praise of a person or thing, especially a set oration in honor of a deceased person.
2. high praise or commendation.

commend

My Dearest DDP,
It has been a long 25 days without your sweet brown nectar. I think of you often. Sometimes I gaze longingly at gas stations as I drive past. Sometimes when I am with water, I am actually thinking of you, but alas it is not the same my lover. Don't tell water, he would be crushed! I miss your bubbly and guilt free taste on my tongue. Going on errands has lost it's allure without you. My 45 minute commute feels dangerously drowsy without your perky personality. Even Biff misses the days when I would take him for a ride in the car just to visit you at some drive up window. I know not whether our separation will be temporary or permanent. Only time will tell. In July I will see the evil force that pulled us apart (the dentist) and see if it has all been worth it. I hope I have not abandoned you for naught. Though we cannot meet during the waking hours I will see you tonight, in my dreams.

And now for some quotes from my visit(s) to the dentist for your entertainment:

Dentist:
"Your teeth are really good at growing decay."
"Do you drink soda?"
"Do you floss?"
"What a trooper."
"You're going to feel a zinger!"

Other staff at the dentist:
"How long has it been since you've been to the dentist?"
"Your teeth are really white." (weird since my teeth are so good at growing decay)
Receptionist: Where should we go for lunch?
Hygienist: Taco Bell. {Me (only in my head): Gross the meat is 35% meat...?}

Me at the dentist:
"A long time..."
"Let's do this!" (followed by a fist punch in the air as I lay in the chair)
"What's going on with Reba remaking a Beyonce song?"
"My whole cheek is numb; it kinda feels like I got botox."

Happy Flossing!

PS: A eulogy VS an eulogy? I simply could not figure it out (even with the help of google). I followed my gut. Sorry if I am incorrect :(

Gratitude Attitude

When I got home from the gym and I was taking a wonderfully hot shower I was just thinking about how I am the luckiest girl in the world. No really, I know other people definitely have it better than I do, but it's all in the attitude right? Of course, I feel that way after about 90% of my runs, gotta love that runner's high. I just wanted to write down a few things I am grateful for today. I could probably go on forever, but I won't bore you.

Things that make me feel warm and fuzzy inside:

1. Running: Seriously, one of the greatest things that has happened to me is discovering that I love it. When I run I feel, like that is what God made me for.

2. Lee: I feel like that is agiven, but since this is my first post related to gratitude I definitely have to mention him. I really don't know why he picked me out of all the girls in the world to marry, but I sure am glad he did.

3. Biff has stopped trying vomit out his insides! (and I won't mention anything else because it is already TMI, but you know dogs get sick too.) So glad that whatever weird thing he ate is no longer in his system! So gross and sad. Why can't dogs just have logic?

4. Valentine's Day is Monday! AND for once I am not going crazy with unrealistic expectations. The key to a good Valentine's Day is to learn to do for others and to give the day permission to not be some cheesy (perfect) scene from a movie or a book because let's be real, that hardly ever happens and it is okay.

5.Weekends are wonderful.

6. The weather has been great lately (I'll take the 50's in February)!

7. I have a great job with the best coworkers. I love how we go out to lunch together every Friday. My team members at my school all have great attitudes and I have learned a lot from them.

8. My cute niece taking a nap on my lap yesterday while we watched Finding Nemo was so sweet. She is adorable.

We'll stop there because 8 is my favorite number. I won't say lucky number because I don't really believe in luck. You make your own luck. Have a great day and Valentine's Day; remember to count your blessings.

"As each day comes to us refreshed and anew, so does my gratitude renew itself daily. The breaking sun over the horizon is my grateful heart dawning upon a blessed world." Terri Guillemets

What are you grateful for?

Dog Day Out

If you are me and you have a Tuesday off what do you do with your day? Take your dog (and your hubby) on a walk and then later go see True Grit with Christmas gift cards. Don't you just love gift cards? The following photos are deceiving! The weather looked great, but it was FREEZING!
This is me trying to get Biff to pose for a photo, I guess he is just as impossible to photograph as Lee and I.

This is what we look like while walking, notice the tight leash! People in my neighborhood always say to me, "Who is walking who here?" Very clever, people like I have never heard that one before! Why don't you teach my dog to heel if it is so ding dong simple!

I thought this photo would be cute, Lee thought it would be cheesy, but then I got the hilarious one below and it was worth it!We met this horse, and Biff wanted to get up close and personal. The husby kept telling me to pull him out or the horse would smash him with his hoove. Delores the horse would never do that would she? Biff loves meeting animals.

Aww... Best Friends

And we're home! Biff is always pooped after a walk.

I can't believe the Biffer is three years old it seems like just yesterday Lee brought him home for me as a surprise. I had been begging Lee to get a dog for about a year before we got one. We had chosen the breed together and found a breeder, but one day I text Lee while I was at work and asked him to call the breeder about the puppies. Lee informed me that all of the shar pei puppers were spoken for which was a big disappointment. It had been hard to find the type of pup we wanted, at the best price we could find, and within driving distance. It turns out it was all a lie so that he could surprise me.

"heard of your greatness, but never of your goodness"

People have been ranting and raving to me about the greatness of bountiful baskets; but seriously people, they are great! You have to get one to believe it. (PS if you know what the title of this post is paraphrased/quoted from (without google) you can be my friend and we can drink diet dr. peppers together except that I don't drink them anymore :( c'est la vie... and I am only 11 days DDP sober so no, I cannot be your sponsor for quitting diet soda.)

But back to the baskets!

It's kind of hard to tell what is in the basket from a photo such as this so I kindly laid it out for you to see it properly.

So this is what I got.
Veggies: Bag of potatoes, 2 red peppers, spinach, broccoli, celery & cauliflower.
Fruities: Tomatoes, strawberries, bananas, green apples, (giant bag of) pears, and cantaloupe.

So if you would like to try a boutiful basket (if they have them near you) for just $15 or $19 for a first timer you can check it out here.

The only problem with this situation is that I got tons of pears! I have never eaten a pear, I am a pear eating virgin if you will. So here's the question... Do you have any delicious recipes using pears? Please & thank you for any help! Comments about pears much appreciated.

PS: Mr. Biff and I currently have a prime location for blogging and you know what they say in real estate: location, location, location.

y to the blog

Okay, so I admit it; I have no life.

Illustration of this point: The other day I say to the husband, "You know how you said you would take Biff on a walk with me? Well, you don't have to go. I'll go by myself because I want to live life and you want to live couch."
First of all, how rude is that, "you want to live couch." Second of all, what does that even mean? Last, and most important (to the point I am trying to make here)is... Since when is taking a dog for a walk living life?

So point made. I really am boring and don't really, "live life."

But, back to the side story (if you were wondering)Lee did walk the Biff with me; he just wanted to watch some clip coming up on ESPN about Jimmer Frasomething and I did not; hence my bratitude.
What was I talking about? Right, I have no life. Which brings up the question of why I am starting a blog. Good question right?
So why am I starting a blog? First here are all of the reasons I have never had a blog before:
1. I once had a class where I was required to write in a blog every week about school and it was part of my grade and it kinda made me hate it.
2. I am boring or if you must argue with that I will say too busy for fun/excitement.
3. Now, don't be offended here world of bloggers, but I have kind of felt that having a blog is sort of pretentious. Sort of like saying, "Hey! I am awesome! Read my thoughts! Look at my photos! Who isn't interested in me?"

That seems like some pretty good reasons for not blogging. So now I'll explain what has caused my change of heart.
1. The first time I wanted to blog was after watching this: Let's bet honest, who didn't want to blog after watching this? Or cook up a storm (a french storm) in the kitchen for that matter.
2. Having a blog could force me to actually TRY to be more interesting and exciting.
3. Reading other friends blogs makes me want to blog just to be able to have a list of awesome blogs on the side of mine for easier perusing of blogs.
4. This goofy article someone posted on facebook written by a self proclaimed feminist/atheist who can't stop reading blogs of mormon housewives. You can read it here.
5. And that article led me to an awesome blog that I have been reading like a book (literally read it for hours on end) That is her below; to read it click on her face.

So there it is. The scoop on y to the blog.

DI Decor

Yesterday I worked on fancifying this blog for an indiscriminate amount of time and today it looks sort of tacky to my eyes, but I spent so much time on it that I won't be changing it anytime soon. Lucky for me, right now I get to spend my days lounging on the couch (reading, facebooking, or watching TV) taking Biff for walks, heading to gold's and going to the DI in an effort to get out of the house without spending too much money. Since I teach year round school I have random 2-4 week vacations from work every 9 or so weeks. I am currently enjoying one such break, but I am in for the ultimate Monday come this Monday. The ultimate Monday meaning going back to work after living the life of a bum for a while.

Yesterday I took a trip to that smelly place known as a thrift store in hopes of finding some unknown treasure(s). Lately I have noticed that when I go to said store it is packed with customers; which makes the experience even less pleasant than usual.

I did (of course) find items to waste some $ on, although not a gravy boat which is often what I am looking for when I decide to venture out.

I got that little vase above for $1.50 and classy lady that I am I filled it with those fake plant like stems from another favorite store; Dollar Tree.

I got two of these decorative coat hanger doodads for $1.50 each. Never you mind that I don't have a use for them yet...

This last purchase was my favorite item of the day for $5. The great thing about it being that 1. It is red and 2. It's gigantic so I can take it to work. I currently take my regular purses to work and wear them out too early by overfilling them with things like my lunches, laptop, books, or any other teachery thing you can think of.

I thought you might enjoy a photo of this baby in action even though it turned out blurry.
